Do Good Deli:

Do Good Deli Caritas has launched Do Good Deli, a new downtown lunch delivery service that will bring sandwiches, salads, cookies and drinks to hungry downtown office dwellers. With its new lunch service, Caritas joins with other nonprofits that have launched for-profit ventures in hopes of reducing their reliance on, though not replacing, donors, grants and governmental funding.

"We are helping our agency become self-sufficient, just as we help our clients set goals and stand on their own," says Beth Atherton, executive director of Caritas of Austin. The delivery-only deli has a $20 minimum order and offers six different sandwiches, each with a choice of chips, banana or cookies, ranging from $5.99 to $7.99. The menu also offers three different salads at $5.99 or $6.99.

One-hundred percent of Do Good Deli's proceeds will go to support Caritas' programs and services. Caritas hopes its for-profit venture will not only create an independent income stream, but will also get the word out about the nonprofit's services, which include education, emergency financial assistance and the Community Kitchen. Caritas is also known for its resettlement program, which helps documented refugees acculturate to American life.
