MISSION: Caritas provides
a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a
safety net and links
them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency.
VISION: Caritas envisions
a community where there is
respect for all individuals, hope for those experiencing
poverty and opportunities for self-reliance.
SERVICES: Caritas helps low-income
families with
emergency basic needs such as food, rent and utilities.
Caritas also helps client families learn the skills to become
self-reliant.
HISTORY: Caritas was founded in 1964 and is an integral
part of our community’s social services network.
CLIENT POPULATON: Caritas
will serve 20,000 adults
and children as Travis County’s largest source of nongovernmental
assistance for low-income families. Caritas
serves the working poor, the unemployed, the homeless,
near-homeless and documented refugees.
ANNUAL BUDGET: Caritas’ last audit
found that 90% of the
budget directly impacted clients.
FIGHTING POVERTY, HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS
SINCE 1964
BASIC NEEDS SERVICES: Include emergency rent and utility
assistance for families in financial crisis such as job loss or
reduced working hours, hot meals in the community kitchen,
take-home groceries from the food pantry and resettlement
support services for documented political refugees.
SELF-SUFFICIENCY SERVICES: Build the skills needed to
move toward self-reliance through education classes such as
budgeting, money management, energy conservation, ESL
and job readiness and placement.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
This year Caritas will...
- serve 20,000 adults and children
- provide $1.8 million in housing and utilities assistance
- serve 100,000 hot meals in the Community Kitchen
- provide take-home groceries for 60,000 meals
