Caritas of Austin Birthday Club

Celebrate your Birthday with Caritas!

Join the Caritas of Austin Birthday Club, which began in November of 2008. Two women wanted to make a difference while celebrating their birthdays. They invited several friends to join them and "do something a little different." In celebration of their special day, they prepared and served lunch in the Caritas Community Kitchen to over 400 individuals and families in need.

To schedule your own birthday party, please contact Molly Sipe at (512) 646-1291 or msipe@caritasofaustin.org.

It is also a meaningful way to celebrate the memory of a loved one who cared about Caritas of Austin’s mission to provide a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency.

When your Tribute Gift is received, Caritas of Austin will promptly send a personalized tribute card to the person or family you indicated, notifying them of your thoughtful donation.

Thank you for honoring your loved one, while supporting the vital programs and services that make a difference in our community.

Financial Stewardship

As a 501 (c)(3) organization, Caritas of Austin holds itself to the highest financial and service-related standards through established internal and external accountability measures.

The Board of Directors approves the annual budget before the start of the fiscal year. In addition, the Finance and Monitoring Committee of our Board of Directors meets monthly with the Executive Director, the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Development to review financial reports and other financial matters.

Each year, Caritas hires an independent financial auditor to review the previous fiscal year and present its findings to the Board of Directors. The auditors meet in person with the Finance and Monitoring Committee and the Board of Directors to present the audit report.

Caritas of Austin conducts criminal background checks at the time of hiring of all staff, ensuring that we serve our clients and conduct agency business with the upmost integrity. Both the finance and development departments have been structured to ensure separation of duties—distinct, separate individuals are responsible for handling, recording and reconciling items affecting cash.

In addition, as a lead agency in One Voice Central Texas (formerly Austin Area Human Services Association), Caritas of Austin undergoes an annual assessment based on the organization’s Standards of Excellence.

With integrity, Caritas strives towards the vision of a community where there is respect for all individuals, hope for those experiencing poverty and opportunities for self-reliance. If you have questions about financial stewardship, please contact Susan Hartenstein, Chief Financial Officer, at (512) 646-1269.
