25th Annual Harvey Penick Award

Each year, the Harvey Penick Award is presented to a prominent leader for 'Excellence in the Game of Life' with all event proceeds benefiting Caritas of Austin.

We are honored to have recognized local leaders and philanthropists Gary and Susan Farmer as the 2016 Harvey Penick Award recipients! We recognized the Farmers at the 9th annual Words of Hope Dinner on September 29 at the Hyatt Regency Austin. To learn more about Words of Hope and to see recaps from the evening, click HERE.


2016 Harvey Penick Award Honoree: Gary and Susan Farmer

Gary and Susan Farmer are longtime Austinites and prominent leaders in our community. Gary is President of Heritage Title Company of Austin, Inc. and Heritage Exchange Corporation of Texas.

He is also involved in a variety of civic and charitable endeavors. Currently, Gary serves as a Board Member of the following organizations: Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation, The University of Texas Chancellor’s Council, The University of Texas Development Board, the President’s Council of The Real Estate Council of Austin, the National Multi Housing Council and The Rise School of Austin. Susan is also deeply committed to bettering our community through service to various nonprofit organizations.

Gary and Susan are graduates of The University of Texas, the proud parents of three daughters and members of Tarrytown United Methodist Church.

They have been longtime supporters of Caritas of Austin’s work to help reduce homelessness in our community and empower people toward a better life. “Caritas of Austin serves as a beacon of hope and a pathway forward to many who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances in our community.  Caritas of Austin provides a safety net so that people can get on their feet again.  Susan and I find the opportunity to support the mission of Caritas of Austin is a most noble opportunity, indeed!” said Farmer.

Each year, the Harvey Penick Award for Excellence in the Game of Life is presented to a prominent leader whose life emulates that of the first recipient, golf legend, Harvey Penick.

Previous honorees include Cliff Gustafson, J.J. "Jake" Pickle, Barbara Jordan, Lady Bird Johnson, George Christian, Bob Bullock, Edith and Darrell Royal, Lowell Lebermann, Ben Crenshaw, Angela and Mort Topfer, Jody Conradt, Larry Gatlin, Susan and Michael Dell, Pat Hayes, Kirk Watson, Sally and Mack Brown, Bishop John E. McCarthy, Teresa and Joe Long, Donna Stockton-Hicks and Steve Hicks, Co-Founders of GSD&M: Steve Gurasich, Judy Trabulsi, and Tim McClure, Sarah and Ernest Butler, and Frank Denius. The 2015 Penick Award honorees were the Co-Owners of ThunderCloud Subs.
