On Sunday May 24th, 2009, my brothers and I will begin an adventure of a lifetime. We are riding our bicycles from Austin, TX to Calgary, Canada. My brothers and I have more than just a brotherly bond. We also share the bond of owning ABC Home and Commercial Services. ABC has been part of our family for two generations and my brothers and I have each followed in our father’s footsteps in the family business. We each own individual offices in Austin, San Antonio, College Station (Bobby), Houston (Raleigh), and Dallas (Dennis).
As a celebration of the 60th anniversary of our family business, we wanted to do something out of the ordinary and special. With our mom driving the support vehicle, the 2,300 mile tour is not only an opportunity for us to do something special as a family, but is an ideal opportunity to incorporate this cross-country bike trip as a fundraising effort.
I am riding for Caritas of Austin, an organization that helps low income families and individuals with food and housing assistance and also helping the most vulnerable stabilize in our community. My brother Dennis, with ABC in Dallas, is riding for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and Raleigh, with ABC in Houston is riding for the National Kidney Foundation of Southeast Texas.
I currently serve on the board of Caritas here in Austin and the work that is done by this organization is truly incredible. We all know that when economic times get tight, the need for assistance skyrockets. Texas in general and Austin in particular is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. We have so many things to be thankful for in this great community. Unfortunately, not everyone in Austin shares in the economic prosperity that this community has experienced over the years. Caritas fills a critical role in helping people with the basic needs and provides hot meals, take home groceries, emergency rent and utility assistance. Just as important is the role Caritas plays in moving people to self sufficiency by education and job placement.
I hope that you will consider making a contribution to Caritas. My goal of $50,000 is very ambitious but the need is so very large. I plan on calling upon all of my friends and business contacts from across the state to help meet the goal. The total ride is 2,380 miles and will take about 42 days of riding. As mentioned, our mom will be driving the support vehicle and we will do our best to keep everyone informed about our daily progress. Hopefully, we will generate interest, awareness and excitement about our trip which will in turn raise money for our three charities.
Thank you for your support,

Bobby Jenkins
