  • Creative Recipes with Easy-to-Find Food Items - Most of our clients have a limited income and many utilize our Pantry to get free food items for their families. We'd like to pass along creative recipes they can use to feed their family in style. Common food items our Pantry clients utilize: Ramen noodles, pasta noodles, canned vegetables, rice, pinto and black beans, bread. If this is an interesting activity for you, please feel free to pass along the recipes to our Community Outreach Coordinator, Kate, at ksanchez@caritasofaustin.org.
  • Homemade Face Mask - Our neighbors experiencing homelessness are at higher risk during COVID-19 due to a lack of access to showers or sinks and a lack of access to medical intervention. So, we are asking our volunteers to make homemade masks out of any tightly woven cloth they have at home.
    a. Bandanna Mask – This is simple. If you have any clean bandannas at home you are willing to donate, we will hand them out to walk-in clients.
    b. Cloth Mask – If you have the ability to sew, this would ensure the mask will stay together. If you cannot sew, that’s okay! Some cloth and rubber bands work perfectly. Here is a link to a video for reference on how to make an easy DIY mask. Sharing this project in your personal social media page is greatly appreciated!
