Housing Partners Break Ground on Libertad
To dramatically decrease the number of people experiencing homelessness in our community, we are committed to expand our housing options and increase our services.
This expansion began with our first housing development, Espero Rutland, and on April 26th, we marked another major milestone in our Vision 2025 Plan to house even more of our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Partners Caritas of Austin, The Vecino Group Austin Housing Finance Corporation, Housing Authority of the City of Austin, the Guadalupe Neighborhood Development Corporation and more broke ground to begin construction on Libertad with a ceremony at the building site. Libertad will be a supportive housing community for 198 families experiencing homelessness, and Caritas will be the lead service provider at Libertad.
Meaning “freedom,” Libertad is a deeply affordable and supportive housing community for families transitioning out of homelessness. Libertad is designed to elevate residents’ lives, strengthen relationships, and nurture each resident to reach their full potential. Families will receive tailored case management, on-site supportive services and have access to community-based amenities.
Partners of Libertad:
- Austin Housing Finance Corporation will be the owner of the project with The Vecino Group as primary developer, operator and guarantor.
- Caritas of Austin will be the social services lead organization.
- On-site comprehensive services will be provided by a collaboration of at least 5-family centered non-profit organizations.
Timing:
Construction began in April 2023 and will be completed in summer 2025, and Libertad will begin leasing at that time.
